Kitesurfing is a water sport where a large, controllable kite — attached to you via strong lines and a comfortable waist harness — pulls you across the water on a small board. Think of it as a cross between surfing and flying a kite, except the kite does most of the work. You steer, it powers. The reason Zanzibar — and Paje Beach in particular — is one of the most popular places in the world to learn is simple: the conditions are almost perfectly designed for beginners. Warm, shallow, flat lagoon. Steady, predictable wind. Sandy bottom. No cold water. No scary waves. If you fall off, you stand up. You don't need to be sporty, strong or experienced. Children as young as 10, people in their sixties, complete non-athletes learn here every week. What you do need is a good instructor, the right location, and a little patience.
